Reading Response to Ode to a Nightingale Essays

Perusing Response to Ode to a Nightingale Essays Perusing Response to Ode to a Nightingale Essay Perusing Response to Ode to a Nightingale Essay In Ode to a Nightingale Keats acquaints the peruser with his discontent with the void of feeling he is encountering. In the main line Keats says how his, â€Å"heart aches† which the peruser would decipher as agony; anyway the second 50% of the primary line he portrays, â€Å"A languid numbness†. This reveals to me that Keats is awkward with the â€Å"numbness† he encounters. In the second line Keats says, â€Å"as however of hemlock I had drunk†. Norton references reveal to us that hemlock is a toxic substance that goes about as a sedative in mellow portions. Narcotics cause an elation that could be portrayed as â€Å"drowsy numbness†. In the principal line Keats rehashes the A sound with â€Å"aches, and a sluggish deadness pains†. In the second line Keats rehashes the H sound with â€Å"Hemlock I had drunk†. This similar sounding word usage and sound similarity makes such an euphoric melodic quality, further stressing Keats’ artificially actuated absence of feeling portrayed. Proceeding with tranquilize prompted vacancy in the third line Keats talks about â€Å"some dull sedative to the drains†. Additionally proceeding with the utilization of sound similarity Keats rehashes the D sound with â€Å"emptied some dull sedative to the drains†. Again the inclination created by this redundancy copies the insensible influence of a high. Anyway this line is still more evident than the initial two since Keats makes reference to â€Å"opiate† which is a significantly more notable medication that creates a dead kind of elation. The fourth line of the sonnet acquaints another dynamic with the main verse. Keats says, â€Å"Lethe-wards had sunk:† Norton reveals to us that Lethe is a legendary waterway in Hades that causes neglect. With this line Keats’ expectation in the primary refrain can be extended from an euphoric drained of feeling to one that makes him overlook. Along these lines and Keats’ later references to inebriation (see refrain 2) just as references to death (see verse 3) the peruser could construe that Keats’ wanted the neglectful, euphoric, absence of feeling. Despite the fact that Keats opens the sonnet in line one with â€Å"My heart aches† one could discuss exactly how much his heart truly throbs.

Ethics In Physical Therapy Essay Example For Students

Morals In Physical Therapy Essay Morals In Physical Therapy Essay One of the most quickly developing occupations in the United States today is Physical Therapy. The United States Department of Labor has anticipated 23,000 unfilled physical specialist positions in the year 2000 and an absence of qualified physical advisors to fill them (www.apta.org). While Physical Therapy develops quickly, inquiries of morals in this field have additionally developed in enormous amounts. Active recuperation is the treatment of sickness through physical methods, including light, heat, sound waves, power, attractive fields, and exercise (www.byu.edu). This implies advisors utilize a wide range of structures to treat individuals, and treating individuals can be an enormous test in light of all the various prospects that could happen with the various medications. Exercise based recuperation is an exceptionally fulfilling and worthwhile calling if the issues that join the activity are managed in an able way. The primary issue with Physical Therapy is the issue of the morals of the calling. There are numerous moral clashes, for example, how to charge dependent on your administrations, and what kinds of administrations to provide for every individual patient. To manage physical specialists in their dynamic the American Physical Therapy Association concocted a code of morals for its individuals to set their measures to work by. Their individuals are required to work by this code and are additionally required to keep up moral practices. The main rule in their code is to regard the rights and poise all things considered. This incorporates all patients, representatives, and colleagues. The subsequent rule is to agree to the entirety of the laws and guidelines overseeing the act of non-intrusive treatment. Physical advisors get familiar with these laws in school before turning into a specialist. The third guideline is that they should acknowledge duty regarding their activities and exercise savvy instinct judgment. Each specialist should take ownership of their mix-ups, and assume liability for their patients. The fourth rule is that they should keep up and advance elevated expectations for exercise based recuperation practice, instruction, and research. No specialist ought to ever bargain their convictions in any capacity whatsoever. The fifth standard is that they should look for compensation for their administrations that is merited and sensible. This implies they ought to be paid for the work that they do, yet that the compensation should be a sensible sum. The 6th guideline is that they should give exact data to the customer about the calling and about those administrations they give. This incorporates an exhaustive clarification of what they will do while overhauling a patient. The seventh guideline is that they should acknowledge the obligation to shield people in general and the calling from unscrupulous, clumsy, or illicit acts. This implies on the off chance that they know about any exploitative demonstrations, they are committed to report them. The eight and last rule is that they should take an interest in endeavors to address the wellbeing needs of general society (Code of Ethics). These standards have been addresses, yet there are as yet numerous issues in the framework. To evaluate a portion of the issues that specialists feel are significant, numerous overviews are led. One study by the United Kingdom National Health Service needed to think about moral settings and subjects, so they sent an organized survey to a wide range of active recuperation bunches around the nation. The specialists rounded out the surveys and the outcomes found that the most well-known moral issues among advisors in the United Kingdom were perilous practices in patients and amateurish staff conduct. Their second greatest concern was asset confinements and treatment adequacy. These discoveries recommended that teachers of future physical advisors need to make understudies mindful of work settings and the interdisciplinary idea of work just as standards held by singular specialists (Barnitt). .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 , .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 .postImageUrl , .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 .focused content zone { min-stature: 80px; position: relative; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 , .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77:hover , .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77:visited , .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77:active { border:0!important; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; murkiness: 1; progress: mistiness 250ms; webkit-change: darkness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77:active , .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77:hover { haziness: 1; change: obscurity 250ms; webkit-progress: haziness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relative; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 .ctaText { fringe base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; content improvement: underline; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; text style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; outskirt: none; outskirt sweep: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: striking; line-tallness: 26px; moz-outskirt range: 3px; content adjust: focus; content design: none; content shadow: none; width: 80px; min-stature: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .uacef7b7f00 a9859ad769b13fedb25e77 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .uacef7b7f00a9859ad769b13fedb25e77:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: What is mainstream society and for what reason is it such a major piece of life in the UK? Brownian Motions, Special Relativity and Equivalence of Matter and Energy - Free Essay Example

In 1905 Einstein was discovered during his miracle year after publishing four extortionary papers which were based off of theorys he explained, photoelectric effect, Brownian motions, Special Relativity and Equivalence of matter and energy these papers brought him recognition and resulted to him getting his PhD that same year (Annus Mirabilis). The Theory about photoelectric effect explains if you have a low density of light hitting a metal sheet no photons will give out electrons because of its low frequency of light which gives no electrical current. Now for instance, if you have a high density of light giving off on a metal sheet the light will produce more photons which will cause a number of electrons to give off and give high electricity current. His Brownian motions paper was about molecules and atoms the person to have created this was Robert Brown, he discovered pollen grains shifting in the water but didnt know how to describe it. Albert later explained that the water molecules were the ones moving the pollen. The invisible atoms and molecule causes the particles to shift randomly while they are being hit. special relativity is about how speed equals to distance divided by time, for example if you were to be in a car that was going at a speed of 50mph at constant motion which is straight you feel as if youre not in motion because you are still, but if the car was to turn right or if you were to go at a higher speed youd feel at motion that is what relativity is basically the speed of light is constant and time is relative if youre standing in motion. Not only did Einstein figure this out, but his equation for relativity E=mc^2 helped with creating lasers, televisions, satellites, and remotes most importantly it helped to understand outer space. His equivalence of matter and energy statement explained how all forms of matter have mass that it doesnt matter how big or small it is it also has energy and he expla ined how they could both be converted into each other that energy can be matter and matter can be energy the E=MC^2 was said to have been how they created the nuclear bomb and Einstein felt like he was the one to blame because he had created the formula and theory.

In very simple terms the word strategy indicates at an important tool to extract elements from different cognitive dimensions that are influential in Planning and undertaking actions that are the perfect fit for a particular adverse situation. It has to be mentioned that any risk situation that has a considerable risk matrix ratio in the organisational perception, man's planning and implementing a set of actions that can positively antagonize the effect that the particular risk has the potential to inflict. It is important to have an effective approach in order to deal with the strategic management process which decides upon the success rate of an organization. The strategic management practice can help to set the long term goal of an organization and also fix up on the objective that need to be achieved within a certain period of time. For example the insurance company can have a short term goal of selling fix number of insurance policies within a fixed group of target customers. Morden (2016), have mentioned that it is important for all business organization to have proper market approach to increase the level of brand awareness among the customers that will help them in the overall process of increasing the popularity within the market. The message that is send to the public in the form of advertisement is one of the popular ways to have effective strategic management approach. The message that the company can use to communicate with the public will depend on the target group of customers. The commander approach is regarded as one most popular ways of strategic management implementation of decision making process. In this type of approach the top management of the company takes all the crucial decision related to policy making and thereby implement and execute those policies in practice. The leader of the organization plays the most important role in this type of approach. One of the major advantages of collaborative approach is that all types of stakeholders within the organization take part in business policy implementation process. With the help of most of this kind of approach, it is possible to implement the democratic type of leadership within the organization. The company increase upon their popularity within all culturally diverse business environments (Ethiraj et al. 2017). New Ways of Thinking about Strategy We live in the age of dynamic changes and exponential impact, and in order to sustain the niche in the market business organizations need to always be a step ahead. It has to be understood that surprised if element that is always appreciated, and in order to keep the customers captivated the business organizations need to wear the armor of constant changes. Along with that with the economy and the market inflation being in a constant state of upheaval, newer and better strategies are required in every step of the way. In order to facilitate new Strategies for overcoming any challenges that may present itself in the organization scenario the strategic management concepts and methods is utilized need a fresh start as well. It has to be understood the strategic management as well as an age old concept with the tools and methods and theories being not very recent. However the organisational risks and challenges are no longer what it used to be a decade ago. Therefore it does not need mor e emphasis that there is a pressing need for innovations in the strategic management and strategic thinking as well. As mentioned above there are various theories for strategic management, a varied number of schools of thoughts addressing the needs of different types of risk and challenges (Hitt, Ireland and Hoskisson 2012). The prevalent School of thoughts regarding strategic formation are the cognitive school, the learning school, power school, and the cultural School among many others. On a more elaborative note, all the schools of thoughts have a single focal point foundation of which the entire process of strategic thinking and decision making is established. For instance in the cognitive school of thought this approach for strategic thinking is focused on analysis of the different levels of perception in different people and the patterns it brings to the mix, Silicon eventually concentrating on the actions on the outside world and relating it to the different perceptions of those happenings to articulate a proper strategy to combat with the effects are the actions are inflicting. And on the o ther hand the learning school of thought exercises on the management paying close attention on the actions that do work and the actions that are not applicable in the particular scenario (David 2011). The school of thought exercises on the distinction between effective Strategies and an effective Strategies and therefore articulating the best possible means of dealing with any risk or challenge by the means of strategic thinking. All this schools of thought have effective in implementing and articulating strategic actions to combat with the challenges and risks in the last decade. However it should not escape noticed that the challenges and the risk associated with Bose challenges have changed over time with the changes brought about in the organisational scenario in the last decade. In the current age of the strategic thinking requires Complex adaptive systems and analytical tools to judge the efficacy of the Strategies prior to implementation of them. Usage of these adaptive tools and models facilitate evaluation of the patterns in the changes that the risk situation has represented and based on the evaluation implementation of strategies that will counteract those changes and manipulate them for the benefit of the organization. One such innovation in strategic management is the complexity chaos and entropy model that is abundantly used in organisational sectors (Freeman 2010). Modeling Complexity The implication of the adaptive system is one of the best techniques that can be applied within an organization that forms an important part of the strategic management approach. The complexity approach of strategic management helps to implement the learning methods that form an important part of the business plan of the company. There is also high probability that with the application of the adaptive system, it is possible for the Enterprise Insurance Company to have effective planning for the future. It is also possible to adopt the goal based adoptive techniques that can help in the overall process of dealing with the business complexity. One example of a business organization that has faced risk situations requiring apt strategic management is Enterprise Life (Leaders 2017). Due to using the strategic management, it may require to change the organizational structure. However, the management of the company needs to identify the issues at first before applying the strategic management in the organization. Eden and Ackermann (2013) mentioned that biasness is unethical and strategic management can help to reduce the biasness. For this, the organization needs to make the mission, vision and goal so that the employees of the company can set their own short- goal, vision and mission to achieve those. Moreover, some of the employees complaint that they have no efficient leader, who can motivate them. Hence, it is necessary to reduce the gaps and train the leaders to take efficient steps to motivate the employees and reduce the issues. The Quality Insurance Company is another insurance company that faced the problems like Ent erprise Life Assurance Company. However, the company got help by implementing the strategic management in their company and thus reduced the issues. Hill, Jones and Schilling (2014) mentioned that the strategic management is one type of processes that help the organizations to develop and implement new plans to set the goals as well as aims and objectives. This can ensure the concepts of strategic management to meet the needs of the organization. The first thing, Enterprise Life Assurance needs to adopt is to make the achievable goals. The managers need to take the initiatives to set the goals, aims and vision and mission so that it can help to build a healthy environment for the employees where they can work peacefully. Moreover, the strategic management helps to enter into the international market and thus expand the business and reputation (Stark 2015). The strategic management helps tin the employee motivation that helps to increase the productivity and the revenue as well. This will help to analyse the strategic formation. By the strategic management, the management will be able to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the organization, which will help them to reduce the issues created in the organization. The internal and external analysis is necessary for the development of the position of the company. The analysis facilitate s to strategize the paths to adopt the changes of the technologies in the organization and the emerging markets. Due to using the strategic management, it may require to change the organizational structure. From the analysis, it is clear that the Enterprise Life Assurance company needs to develop their organizational structure (Leaders 2017). Hence, they need to use the strategic management. The employees of the organization need a strong and positive environment to work peacefully, where no biasness would occur. The managers will take the initiatives to set the goals, aims and vision and mission so that it can help to build a healthy environment for the employees where they can work peacefully. Organization will be able to develop and implement new plans to set the goals as well as aims and objectives. Conclusion On a concluding note, it can be sent the strategic management is an important person for a business organization to survive the rising types of economy and sustain a stable position in the market. It has to be understood that the customer preferences are changing rapidly and to cope up with the demands and sustain in the face of unbelievable competition, a business corporation needs to be one step ahead of its competitors. It has to be understood that importance of strategic thinking is integral as a core competency, without which the organizations cannot hope to sustain a stable presence in the target market. However, it must not escape notice that the patterns of corporate market is changing and so are changing the business processes and operational statistics. Hence, as a cumulative affects the challenges and risks in the business scenarios are also changing, along with the objectives and aims. Hence in order to survive these tides of transformation the business corporations need to adapt to innovations in even strategic thinking associating with complex adaptive systems to ensure optimacy of the startegic thinking procedure. Summary Lord Of The Flies Essays - English-language Films

Summary: Lord of the Flies Introduction Lord Of The Flies, by William Golding, focused on the development and deterioration of a miniature society of boys isolated on a small tropical island. The story centred around individuals representing different aspects of children and their personalities. Beginning with a child-like innocence, the novel brought forth many of the sinister characteristics of human nature as the use of violence became more frequent and progressed into an ultimate pinnacle. The violence provided a sense of realism in that the author did not try to hide the factual harshness of the world by covering it with a false softness. The text was very descriptive of the setting and the physical and mental appearance of the protagonists and antagonists. The style of writing being sometimes simple-minded and not fully aware of "the outside world" suited the characters' ages. The book dealt with our true nature as revealed by the freedom from the disciplinary boundaries of modern society. Chapter 1 The description of the lead character in the beginning of the story, was that of a light-coloured boy who was soon given the name Ralph. Ralph seemed a typical kid. His fair appearance and size made him likeable and gave him an inner-strength of self-confidence. His interaction with Piggy showed that he was not ill-natured. Although he laughed at Piggy's name, it was not with real malice for he had ridiculed his external appearance. Piggy's rather unique attributes had made him an outcast of the mainstream of boys at his age, and his lack of self-esteem reflected that. He too seemed good-natured as he behaved in a polite fashion. The fact that Piggy was knowledgable and well-educated was made apparent by his air of responsibility. The conch was presented as a symbol of authority and order. It summoned all the boys from the island to the assembly, and it gave its holder the right to speak. It also set Ralph apart from the bigger boys and helped him to be leader. The clothing worn by the boys made them seem more civilized, and the inappropriateness of such garments made them very much out of place. The uniformed Jack and his choir were seen as a superior power. Being more proper, the uniforms created an isolated unity for the choir. The force of Jack's authority over his choir and his malicious and arrogant personality dwarfed Piggy. Ralph's attempt to defend Piggy being called fatty resulted in more embarrassment for Piggy. The childish laughters formed a bond among the boys and made Piggy what he had always been, an outcast. At their first meeting, all the boys were introduced by their first names. The complicated and serious formalities with their last names were left out to suit their age groups and perhaps to provide a sense of unity among the boys. Jack's insistence on being called Merridew showed his desire to be superior among the boys. His defeat after the vote for chief was taken uneasily at first (hinted by the imagery of a red facial expression), but after being offered the command of his choir, he accepted his status. Among the boys in the choir, Roger was first seen as a shy and quiet boy, while Simon was introduced as pleasant-mannered and happy. Ralph, Simon and Jack's exploration of the island allowed the reader to examine the innocent and playful nature of a small group of boys. Their playful attitude was clearly evident as they were energetic and enthusiastic towards their new environment. They interpretation of their surroundings were truthful and simple. Their first encounter of the pig ended with Jack hesitating to stab the pig. This demonstrated Jack's inexperience as a killer, as compared to what he would become later in the book. Chapter 2 Already, the smaller boys could be seen segregated from the bigger ones. In some instances (in meetings for example), the older boys were like the more powerful and decisive adults while the smaller boys were depicted as the more playful and less responsible children. The little boy's story of the "snake-thing" was not taken too seriously by the older boys. As the story progresses on, it dealt less and less with the smaller boys, until near the ending, they were almost completely ignored. Ralph's leadership was well reflected by his public speaking skills. He was able to convey his thoughts clearly and fluently. Jack too seemed quite able to speak and was quite eager to do so. His suggestion to make rules showed that he wanted to assert control over the "society"

The Impact of Sustainable Development Is Negligible Because It Is Essay

The Impact of Sustainable Development Is Negligible Because It Is Impossible to Translate Into Legal And Binding Obligations - Essay Example This article stresses that the presentation and the examination of the issues involved with the sustainable development as it can be observed in most human activities lead to the assumption that the creation of a ‘legal net’ that could provide an effective protection regarding all aspects of the above activity, should be regarded as a very difficult task. Moreover, although a lot of efforts have been made towards this direction, the relevant national and international legal texts have been proved in many cases inadequate to cover the demands of the relevant area. Violations of the law related with the sustainable development are a characteristic part of human activities around the world. The case of Baltic States and the violations of the laws referring to the forestry regulation is an example of current practice in the area of sustainable development. This paper makes a conclusion that most issues related with the above activity are covered at a primary or even secondary level (low to mid level protection), a fact that should be considered as a significant achievement given the complexity and the extension of sustainable development. In any case, the regulation of all the aspects of a specific human activity is a target that has not been achieved in any social or scientific area so the efforts made up to this point regarding the specific subject have to be evaluated as an important achievement comparing to all other areas of human activity.

Emotional Intelligence Essay Example for Free

Emotional Intelligence Essay The pursuit of knowledge through education entails the many manifestations and progressive procedure of one’s emotion. Human nature previously regarded intelligence as the primary component of learning and eventually as the main source of success. In the modern educational or learning setting, however, a person’s emotional intelligence is now supposed to be of equal authority and even better than intellect as far as its benefits are concern. Hence, based from its advantageous implications to the filed of education or teaching particularly in contemporary schools, emotional intelligence is not to be ignored as a vital requirement of education. The principle concerning the significant nature and value of emotional intelligence in today’s learning is depicted with various circumstances where one’s emotions play very notable part and effect. Considering a person’s varying feelings in response to different life events and realities, it can now be noted that the level of emotional aptitude of a person measures his strength and ability to handle a situation. Most importantly, an individual’s emotional intelligence determines the eventuality of failure and attainment of success. Thus, this is where emotional intelligence apparently matters more because it is able to provide people with success as compared with intelligence quotient. Nowadays, emotional intelligence is subjected to the requirements and challenges of the teaching field. Since people and the society have acknowledged the undeniable positive impacts of emotional intelligence to education, it is then just empirical to pursue further this concept. This is because an increased awareness and involvement by the people as regard the quality and implications of emotional intelligence will definitely work to the advantages of the majority of the population and the communities where they belong. Since learning is determined by how people manage their emotions, then it can be implied that one’s feeling is a factor in determining success or that it can even be considered as a tool to improve education among students. It is, in fact, essential to assist students identify how their respective emotional intelligence will lead them to success or not. Lastly, it is also fortunate that considerable fresh perspectives about how the intellect creates human emotions were already realized. This is for the reason that the brain now creates ways on how emotional intelligence influences, affects and works to the benefit of student’s education. â€Å"Emotional Intelligence† Book, an Overview The above-mentioned hypothesis was clearly illustrated in the 1995 book of Daniel Goleman entitled â€Å"Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ. † The author provided the public with apparently compelling proofs that the emotional intelligence quotient or a student’s level of emotional intelligence is equally valuable in achieving educational success as what cognitive intelligence, as gauged by IQ or SAT percentages, provide (Goleman, 1995). The book opened with an account of how brain functions in relation to one’s emotions. Thereafter in the middle part of the book, Goleman supplemented the rationale behind how to wisely handle emotion and eventually revealed the benefits derived from such thereby proving that it has more substance than IQ. In conclusion, Golemen provided the public with true-to-life manifestations which established the value of emotional intelligence as it performs a more fundamental function in human’s search and eventual attainment of success (Goleman, 1995). Intelligence quotient was previously regarded as the major deciding factor in one’s accomplishment. In the book, this was disputed by Goleman who stated that human’s perspective on IQ is, in fact, a distant and slender version of reality. The book instead stressed the principle of emotional intelligence as the ultimate determinant of a person’s success. Goleman discussed emotional intelligence based from the aspects of one’s consciousness, selflessness, motivation, understanding as well as power to offer love and other endearing emotions while at the same time being loved by people around him (Goleman, 1995). Additionally, the book presented various incidents which proved how people, who exemplified high levels of emotional intelligence and who nurtured their existing emotional strengths, were able to achieve success in their respective areas. In Goleman’s view, emotional intelligence is not inherited or already innate at birth but it can be developed as person matures and its benefits are eventually attained (Goleman, 1995). Focusing on the field of education, the entire book evidently centered its discussion on the emotional intelligence among the students of the young generation. It is at this point that Golemen called on educators and other concerned people in the area of learning to clearly explain to students the nature of emotional intelligence and its evidently positive implications as far as the education of the young ones (Goleman, 1995). In imparting the value of a student’s emotional literacy, the Goleman book also requested the parents to pay attention to the emotional necessities of their children. Adults, on the other hand, need to immediately educate themselves to deal with their respective interpersonal affiliations in a wise manner. Ultimately, the book heightened the beneficial implications of emotional intelligence in the field of education as manifested by the accounts of success which were attributed to the said Goleman concept (Goleman, 1995). â€Å"Emotional Intelligence,† a Critical Analysis The Goleman book is worthy to be examined by presenting the worth or impacts of emotional intelligence as it is compared with IQ and applied in the several stages of human development. Initially based from the characteristic of the human brain, the principle of emotional intelligence as provided by the book concretely challenged that one’s intellect is subjected to limitations. The said position of the book has a sense because in reality, a person is considered intelligent and has a well-defined logic or reasoning aptitude yet this does not holds true as far as decision-making is concern. The book is to be commended with the said stand that the worth of the human brain should not be the determining factor of aptitude but rather one’s emotional intelligence which provides the logic behind every decision. In short, this position is best explained wherein people experience various situations and promptly decide by conforming to what their emotions dictate or simply based from how they feel at the moment and definitely not according to what their mind think. The book specifically illustrated the said position with its initial discussion about the complicated system of the human brain. In particular, the portions of the book where a person’s reaction to a snake as well as the presentations made by Goleman concerning several subject matters such as depression, nervousness, post-traumatic stress disorder or PTSD, drug dependency and misuse, teenage pregnancy and issues on human relationships are all corroborating facts which confirm the principle that emotional intelligence really matters more than IQ (Goleman 1995). While Goleman was criticized for his apparent inclination towards the promotion of emotional intelligence only among children, he is nonetheless acclaimed for such effort. This is because the book has, in fact, succeeded in imparting the beneficial implications of emotional intelligence especially in the field of education of the young students. In particular, the author is to be credited for his suggestion about several procedures of how to improve the emotional intelligence of children, which he proposed to be done from their schools into their respective homes. Hence, the author is correct with his observation that children particularly students turn out to manifest an increased degree of depression, sadness, hostility and rowdiness as they mature or are provided with more academic information. The book is logical when it attributed the said blunders to children’s limited or even lack of emotional intelligence. The pieces of evidence provided by the book regarding the effects of emotional instability among children need to be concurred by the public. This is because an aggravated level of emotional predicament is possible if the issue is not immediately addressed, if not solved. Emotional intelligence as the book implied, on the other hand, is of similar benefit to the adults. That is why the criticisms, which the book got for it reportedly fell short in discussing emotional intelligence among adults, are not justified. In fact, Goleman has comprehensively discussed the importance of adult’s emotional aptitude and stability because it is perceived that logic or the appropriate level of reasoning of an adult is adequately needed for human relationships. The book is truthful with its revelation that an adult is required to be stable with his emotional intelligence in order to achieve well-accepted interpersonal relations with others. This position was appropriately supported with portions of the book which explained the reason behind the emotions’ creation of several reactions and how an adult gets used to such incidents. In particular, a reader may even feel that Goleman is directly addressing the issues by providing his personal insights about life realities which require the application of emotional intelligence. Other issues discussed by the book are of equal significance in the author’s efforts to explain the value of emotional intelligence in adult’s life. Goleman was rational when he wrote that emotional urges usually surpass the procedure of applying logical thinking. This is primarily what his principle of emotional intelligence suggests. That is, in specific incidents in human life, a person is likely to respond in a way what his emotions dictate as correct reaction rather than what the mind implies to assume and reason out. Simply put, emotional desires supersede the course of logical and coherent thinking. While the public apparently regarded that the book resulted into an unusual debate when it stated that emotional intelligence has a higher percentage of status and applicability than IQ, Goleman should not be totally blamed for neglecting the value of academic abilities. This is because his emotional intelligence principle was in accordance to what the results of his studies implied as well as what his observations suggested. Although the disapproval against the Goleman book may have its justification, it is still fair to note that the author did not totally set aside the worth of IQ or intellectual capabilities in general. What Goleman just did was to destroy the incorrect declarations of IQ testing that it is the ultimate determining factor of success and one’s proficiency. Goleman, through the book, just put the issue in its right perspective. When Goleman claimed that emotional intelligence possess around 80 percent while IQ only has 20 percent as their respective contribution to one’s success, what he really tried to impart is that the said due significance of the two elements was based from what people portray as they respond to life eventualities. Based from the accumulated facts by the author, the book was able to illustrate a more transparent image when a person has to react to an incident wherein, while human both considers both his mind and feeling, he is still inclined to decide over a situation based from what he feels and this is where emotional intelligence sets in. The book was also justified in its suggestion that it is not the human IQ percentage which eventually determines one’s triumph or failure. Thus, what the book and its author presented as components of success, such as the manifestations of emotional intelligence, are things which should not be out rightly disregarded. Goleman was able to support his emotional intelligence principle by providing studies which showed that people with high IQ percentages did not eventually succeed in life or attained any substantial achievements. Instead, the book succeeded in proving that even people with low IQ percentages succeed in the end precisely because they possess an impressively high level of emotional intelligence. Implications in Contemporary Education As previously stated, emotional intelligence is not an inherent ability. One way of emphasizing this idea is the effort made by the Goleman book that people can nurture such principle from the educational system. In fact, the author emphasized that it is critical that emotional intelligence is cultivated as children are introduced to formal learning until they reach their adulthood. This was made known by the book because of the apparent beneficial implications that emotional intelligence provide to people and the society in general. It is in this aspect that both educators and students benefit from reading the book primarily due to its main objective which is to impart the value and advantages of adhering to the nature of emotional intelligence. With learning institutions existing naturally wherein the students and the information derived from such field interact and are connected with each other, it is just practical that it is the proper venue where emotional intelligence may effectively manifest its value and usefulness. This is because it is in schools where students, while learning, are subjected to various incidents which test their respective emotional intelligence capabilities. Appropriate and acceptable responses to these situations are then considered to be as concrete manifestations of the power of emotional intelligence among students. The issue whether emotional intelligence fits the educational system is based according to the implications of the said philosophy to contemporary learning. Given the modern academic standard, it is logical to state that emotional intelligence directly affects how students are taught with various topics and that their specific responses to every situation depict how a high level of emotional intelligence really matter more as far as making decisions are required. While Goleman indicated that it is not totally easy to impart emotional intelligence in today’s school particularly to the level of young students, there are specific ways where the said ability can be used and eventually achieve its purpose of leading the young one into the eventuality of achieving success in the future. Through the guidance of the book and the suggestions offered by Goleman, the public was provided with the idea on how to have emotion-based incidents and emotional intelligence best suit the field of learning. Implications of incorporating emotional intelligence in educational programs are, in fact, existing and are proven in the formulation of curriculum in various learning facilities. Once the principle of emotional intelligence is imparted in education, students manifest self-awareness wherein they monitor and acknowledge their own emotions and they eventually are able to identify the link between ideas, emotions and responses. Additionally, the decision-making ability of students is enhanced by emotional intelligence because they are able to study their actions and the effects of the decision to a particular incident. Above all, emotional intelligence when put into the educational structure ultimately develop one’s overall personality as the students are able to manage their emotions, deal with stress, enhance interpersonal relationship and most importantly develop their individual accountability and ability to correctly resolve problems. Conclusion The principle of emotional intelligence is by itself can be considered as valuable in today’s education. Goleman and his book made it more clear, acceptable and beneficial to the public hence I personally like and commend it. Above all, the book succeeded in its main argument that emotional intelligence is definitely more important than IQ based from the advantageous implications it provided to today’s students. Beyond the controversy, the book ultimately served its very purpose of offering the students and educational system an alternative learning principle which is better or has more substance than what already exists. Flesh-eating Bacteria Essays -- essays research papers

Some call it “horror'; and some call it “the super germ';, but now, our always known “regular'; bacteria, those one-celled creatures once considered under control with antibiotics, have invaded our hospitals and headlines with a vengeance. The vengeance used against us is caused by an existing organism called necrotizing fasciitis, the so-called flesh-eating bacteria, caused by Group A streptococcus. What this organism does is progressively destroy the human body tissue all the way to the bone. This organism has amazingly outsmarted us of even our most potent drugs.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In our community right now, medical researchers are testing antibiotics that may have chemicals to disable the resistance of this organism. But while research continues, it is vital to be aware of how these deadly germs spread and what we can do to prevent them.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Long before humans discovered antibiotics, they existed in nature. So naturally, after penicillin was introduced, some germs were already naturally resistant to the drug. As we used more and more of the antibiotics, we incidentally caused drug-resistant germs to progress. So, even if you’ve never misused antibiotics, you could still become infected by bacterium most drugs won’t kill. For each drug, there are germs genetically programmed to survive- some w/ outer walls tough for antibiotic to cross, others with ways to dump the drugs back out before they can work, and yet others can inactivate the antibiotic. Even worse, by passing tiny packets of genetic material to other bacteria, these survivor germs sometimes also pass the formula for resistance to the other bacteria. The best way you can protect yourself and your family against drug-resistant bacteria is by using antibiotics correctly. Taking them when they’re not needed encourages the takeov er of drug-resistant strains in your body. (Redbook, pg.95) That’s because when antibiotics are given, the normal bacteria in your body are killed off, leaving lots of bacterial “parking spaces'; open. And the germ left to fill them is the drug-resistant ones. (Redbook, pg.95)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  So far, antibiotic resistance has not been a big problem with streptococcus A, the germ familiar to all of us for causing millions of cases of strep thr... ...k two nurses to change the dressing- one to lift the folds of skin and the other to pack the wound. Continuing to mark the date and the margins of the wound, Katie’s nurses and doctors were hoping for a survival. Nutritional support at this point was entered via gastrointestinal tubing and by this time Katie was going through major psychological wounds that needed healing as well. Sadly the doctors were not able to prepare Katie to go home. Despite fasciotomy and the surgery, her infection continued aggressively. Her wound after surgery had a foul-smelling drainage, which increased in amount every day. Local cellulitis developed at the IV site on her arm. Just 10 days after the first surgery she underwent a second infection spreading around her hip area. Despite all efforts by Katie and the hospital staff, she died of septic shock and multisystem organ failure after 30 days in intensive treatment. Although flesh-eating disease is always life threatening and in most cases re sults in a fatality, it doesn’t have to have an unhappy ending if you use prompt recognition and go to clinical expertise within the first sign of the disease. Don’t let it get you!

Nursing Theory Essay

Motivation theories includeAchievement-motivation theory Expectancy theory Equity theory Motivation theories are derived predominantly from the work of:Abraham Maslow (a psychologist) Achievement-motivation theory developed by: Focus: Atkinson, McClelland, and Veroff Aspects of personality characteristics and proposes 3 forms of motivation/needs in work situations (achievement, power, affiliation) Individuals are not as concerned with the rewards of achievement as they are with the actual achievement are:Achievement (high need achievement) Expectancy theory Major concept In 1964 –Vroom decided to add the concept of expectancy, instrumentality & valence to motivation Expectancy is defined as Instrumentality describes Valance is In Short, the Expectancy Theory states thatDeveloped by Victor Vroom in 1960s The effect of ability and motivation on performance Performance = ability X motivation Performance = expectancy x instrumentality x valence The association between the action and the outcome of the action (action will lead to achieve goal) The type of outcome derived b/c of an action (achievement of a goal will lead to reward) The value placed on the desirability of the outcome by the employee An individual will act (performance) in a certain manner b/c there is an expectation (motivation) that the act will result in an outcome. Equity theory Developed by: This theory attempts to describe: Stacy Adams-a research psychologist The relationship in which an individual give something (input) and in exchange receives something (outcome) Ex: an individual expects that if he/she works hard at a job (input), he/she will receive compensation or recognition (outcome) based on what he/she put in Concepts of power, empowerment, and change Power is The larger concept from which authority is derived Power is defined asInfluence wielded (used) by an individual or group of individuals to change behaviors & attitudes and to sway decisions Authority isA formal right based on the manager’s position in the organization. A source of legitimate power 5 bases/sources of powerReward, coercive, legitimate, referent, and expert power Coercive, reward, & legitimate power – are considered formal bases of power Referent & expert power – are personal bases of power Two other bases of power Informational power vs. charismatic powerInformational power – is the power held by an individual who has the information necessary for others to accomplish a task or goal Charismatic power – is the power that attracts one individual to another Empowerment isThe transfer or delegation of responsibility & authority from managers to employees; empowerment is the sharing of power (sharing vision, mission, knowledge, expertise†¦) Change Planned Change Theory Central to Lewin theory A field – Force – have 2 forces (driving force vs. restraining forces) By Kurt Lewin (a German psychologist –if u care!!! ) The concepts of field and force Can be viewed as a system (if one part of the system change, then the whole system must be examined to determine the effect of that change) Driving force – encourages/facilitates movement to a new direction, goal, or outcome Restraining force – (opposite with driving force). Restraining forces block or impede progress toward the goal. Problem-Solving and decision-making processes The Rational Decision-Making ModelInvolves a cognitive process where each step follows in a logical order from the one before. By cognitive, It means -based on thinking through and weighing up the alternatives to come up with the best potential result. Bounded rational decision-making model (Bounded rationality) Means that humans are unable to make entirely rational decision b/c of the limits of human mental abilities and b/c of the influence of external force on decision making. A decision maker is said to exhibit bounded rationality when they consider fewer options than are actually available, or when they choose an option that is not â€Å"the best overall† but is best within the current circumstances. E. g. , someone spills coffee on a shirt in a restaurant, and goes next door and buys a poorly fitting shirt to change into immediately. Obviously it would be optimal to buy a proper fitting shirt. But if the person is in a hurry and cannot wear a wet, coffee stained shirt, then buying the poorly fitting one is appropriate. This is an example of bounded rationality Group Decision Making modelOften used when the decision is complex, such as when a new process or product is being developed. Advantage: the decision made may be higher quality Major errors may be avoided Disadvantage: Take longer to reach decision May lead to compromises that really do not solve the problem Organizational Quantitative Decision-Making Techniques Rely on facts & quantitative measures (data based) to make decisions (although intuition & judgment still influence the decision making process) Conflict Management Characteristics of a conflict situation: Conflict Mode Model 2 types of response: cooperativeness vs assertiveness Thomas & Kilmann (1974) – 5 conflict-handling modes/strategies: Thomas (1976) recommended that the FIRST COURSE of action is to discern (recognize) the other party’s intent in causing the conflict before determining how to respond Cooperativeness – focus on statisfying the other person’s concern Assertiveness – focus on statisfying one’s own concern 1. Competing or forcing – used when the issue is important, needs speedy resolution . Ex. An individual pursues his own concerns at the other person’s expense. This is a power-oriented mode in which you use whatever power seems appropriate to win your own position. (Assertive but uncooperative) 2. Accomodation – opposite of competing. When accomodating – the individual neglects his own concerns to stisfy the concerns (assertive and cooperative) 3. Avoidance – the person neither pursues his own concerns nor those of the other individual.
